The Interconnection of Spirituality & Political Thought Pt.1

I came into relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of nine years old. I was attending a baptismal service. The saints of God were singing; “Take Me to the water”, an old Baptist spiritual. As they began to sing, what I now know as being the presence of God, began to move on my heart. It is a feeling I’ll never forget. God spoke to me and said; “It’s time to give your life to me”. At that tender age, without any hesitation I did just that. Later that Sunday I joined my Baptist church, feeling completely different as if a thousand pounds had been lifted off of my shoulders and thankfully I’ve been living for the Lord ever since.

However, as I grew into teen-hood, though I loved God, attended church, read my Bible, and engaged in many other Christian disciplines I began to venture out into “the real world” as it was called—media, film, politics. These were things that were virtually shunned or ignored but I was always interested in them regardless of the fact that any real pursuit in these industries would be viewed, to be “sinful”. It was in pursuing government and politics starting with the 2008 U.S. presidential election that I began to see the fallacy of liberalism as it concerned being first of all a Christian and, as well, being Black, but because everyone I knew (classmates included) were democrat or pledged allegiance to such, I kept quiet.

Eventually as the age of social media grew and I began to discover other Black people with conservative views who did not blindly (as I perceived) vote for or support the democratic party. They were freethinkers—they weren’t racists or bigots as many of my family members painted conservatives and/or republicans to be. In fact, they espoused many, if not all, of the same ideas we preached but never authentically practiced.

Though discovering this new community of likeminded individuals. Who had an unwavering faith in God but still loved “right” government I still felt much shame. Did I “betray my race” or am I being too worldly? I was confused until I began to understand that the political practice and condition of the person is not separate from the spiritual condition and position of the soul and spirit. While you may doctrinally believe a certain thing the allure and seduction of false doctrine (which goes beyond just biblical misinterpretation but extends as well to the political, social etc.) is extremely powerful.

It is because of this liberal seduction that many Bible believing, tongue talking Christians can worship Jesus and still vote in favor of abortion. This is the cognitive dissonance that many believers have.

THE SOUL OF THE NATION

I believe, just as human beings, nation’s have souls. In fact, a nation in a literal sense is simply the collection, cultural concentration and uniting of multiple souls. It is in understanding this that the Lord began to show me that the soul of this nation (the United States of America) is sick. In order to better explain this God brought me to Isaiah chapter 1. The scripture says; “Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord…” (Isaiah 1:4). The scripture goes on to say; “From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment. Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers” (Isaiah 1:6-7).

This, sadly, seems to apply to the United States of America; the state of our markets, media, families, communities, cities etc. Many of us are wounded and regressive atheistic ideology, no matter how hard we try, cannot heal the wound. IN fact, it only makes it worse. Many of our cities and communities are desolate (killings, shootings, fractured homes etc.) and a national infrastructure overtaken from within by unlawful individuals.

We cannot blindly continue to create division between this nation’s government and God’s governance, especially if we are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is time. We CANNOT be silent anymore!
